Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist at NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has an undergraduate degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was hired as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. She joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. She was hired by NBC News Washington two years after that as a general reporter. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the principal journalist for Congress. In 1992, she was appointed Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter of NBC News. Mitchell participated on the TV show Meet the Press and also host of the show. Mitchell was a panelist at the debates in 1988 between George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell got married to Alan Greenspan the former chairman of Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to honor her achievements in journalism. In 2004 The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize of her contribution to defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell covered the White House first for NBC News between the years 1981-88, which was in the two years that Ronald Reagan served as president. Her coverage included a variety of significant stories, including the Iran-Contra controversy, budget and tax reform, as well as the arms control. Mitchell traveled extensively with President Reagan during summits with Mikhail Gorbachev.
